01 — Overview
This Privacy Policy describes how Coderholics Ltd ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and safeguards information when you use the 9jaReport mobile application ("the App"), which enables real-time security and election incident reporting, missing person/stolen vehicle alerts, and SOS emergency alerts across Nigeria.
By using the App, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the App.
02 — Information We Collect
We collect the following information to provide the App's features:
- Account information — when you sign up, we collect your name, email address, phone number, and sex via Firebase Authentication.
- Phone verification — to verify your phone number, we send a one-time code via the WhatsApp Business API. Your phone number is shared with Meta for this purpose only.
- Report content — details you submit for security reports, election reports, missing person/stolen vehicle (Amber) alerts, and SOS activations, including category, description, and severity or urgency level.
- Photos and videos — media you capture or select as evidence to attach to a report or SOS alert.
- Microphone and voice — used to record audio for SOS video evidence and to transcribe spoken reports into text via on-device/OS speech recognition.
- Location — precise or approximate location attached to reports so responders know where an incident occurred. During an active SOS alert, the App may continue tracking your location in the background until the alert is resolved.
- Emergency contact — the name and phone number of a trusted contact you choose to add, used to notify them if you activate SOS.
- Device and network metadata — device model, OS version, network type, and IP address are attached to each report to support verification and abuse prevention.
- Push notification token — used to deliver alerts and updates relevant to your area.
- Diagnostics — Firebase Crashlytics collects crash and performance data to help us fix issues.
03 — Anonymous Reporting
Security and election reports can be submitted anonymously. When you choose to report anonymously, your name is not attached to the report and is not shown to other users. Device and location metadata described above may still be attached to the report for verification and abuse-prevention purposes, but this metadata is not displayed publicly alongside the report.
04 — How Reports Are Shared
Security reports and election reports are visible to other signed-in users of the App. Missing person and stolen vehicle (Amber) alerts are public and can be viewed without signing in, so they can reach as many people as possible. Where necessary to protect safety or comply with the law, report content may be shared with relevant authorities or emergency responders.
05 — How We Use Your Information
- To provide and maintain your account and verify your phone number
- To publish and display security, election, missing person, and SOS reports to relevant users
- To notify your emergency contact and track your location during an active SOS alert
- To send you notifications about incidents and alerts relevant to your area
- To moderate content and enforce bans against abusive accounts
- To detect and prevent fraud, spam, and abuse using Firebase App Check
- To diagnose crashes and improve the App's reliability
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond operating the App.
06 — Permissions
The App requests the following device permissions:
- Camera & photo library — to capture or attach photo/video evidence to reports and SOS alerts.
- Microphone & speech recognition — to record SOS video audio and transcribe voice reports into text.
- Location (including background) — to tag reports with where an incident happened and to track your location during an active SOS alert.
- Phone — to let you place emergency calls directly from the App.
- Notifications — to alert you to nearby incidents, SOS updates, and report status changes. You can disable these at any time in your device settings.
07 — Third-Party Services
The App relies on the following third-party services:
- Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Functions, Cloud Messaging, Crashlytics, App Check) — operated by Google, used to power accounts, storage, notifications, and abuse prevention.
- WhatsApp Business Cloud API — operated by Meta, used solely to deliver phone verification codes.
These services are governed by Google's Privacy Policy and WhatsApp's Privacy Policy respectively. We do not use any advertising or analytics/tracking SDKs.
08 — Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored securely using Firebase's infrastructure, hosted on Google Cloud. We apply Firebase Security Rules so that report content is only readable by signed-in users (or, for public safety alerts, by anyone), and only administrators can moderate or remove content. Accounts found to be abusive may be banned from creating further reports.
09 — Data Retention & Deletion
We retain your account and report data for as long as your account is active or as needed to support ongoing safety and moderation purposes. If you wish to delete your account and associated data, please contact us at support@coderholics.co.uk and we will process your request within 30 days, subject to any legal obligation to retain records of reported incidents.
10 — Children's Privacy
The App is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
11 — Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete the personal data we hold about you. To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at support@coderholics.co.uk.
12 — Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
